Give A Hand Foundation

Background

GIVE A HAND FOUNDATION is a female Sex work led Non for profit organization established in 2021 due to the breakdown of COVID-19 pandemic which exposed and exacerbated the vulnerabilities among female Sex Workers . The demands painfully shifted from health to other livelihoods and welfare demands in the midst of poverty and economic hardship that increased due to economic shutdowns. More than 15 years of health services and advocacy has yielded great impact and change to the life and welfare of SWs including access to health care. As all partners and actors consolidate the health gains, GAHF is opening new fronts for advocacy and engagement, where the SWs have found new road-blocks.

Goal
Integration of services is one of the commonest themes for Key Population programming in health. The theme, in other program areas and interventions has not readily been developed and appreciated. There is little guidance for planners and decision-makers on how to plan and implement integrated development service for the female sex workers . GaHF has shifted from “Nothing for us without us” to “Same community – New fronts” and this is our very first project to be implemented.

Vision
A society where justice, fairness and equal access and enjoyment of basic services is guaranteed to Female sex workers in their diversities.

Mission
To improve the health of society through participatory assessment and provision of basic services to all female sex workers in their diversities.

GaHF’s thematic areas;

  1. Policy to Practice
  2. Sustainable Livelihoods and Community Empowerment
  3. Holistic health care
  4. Health systems strengthening for female Sex workers services
  5. WASH and Environment
  6. Organizational and Institutional Strengthening and Development

Strategic Objectives

  3. To strengthen the capacity of community structures and systems to prioritize, be representative, responsive and friendly to health, social and livelihood needs of female SWs in Uganda.
  4. To improve the health, work stations and household environment, sanitation and hygiene of vulnerable and exposed female SWs in Uganda.
  5. To strengthen the institutional and organizational capacity of GaHF, its staff and partners to initiative, develop, fundraise for, manage and coordinate and monitor its programs and projects targeting female SWs.
