In 2025, the African Sex Workers Alliance (ASWA), in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), released Uncelebrated Victories, Unfinished Justice — a policy brief documenting sex worker-led progress toward decriminalization across Africa.
The brief highlights how sex workers are advancing legal reform through grassroots organizing, strategic advocacy, and community-led research — despite criminalization, stigma, and funding restrictions.
It calls for urgent action: repeal punitive laws, protect sex worker-led organizations, ensure meaningful policy inclusion, and strengthen accountability for violence.
Sex workers are not beneficiaries of change — they are leading it.
