In response to the Stop Work Order issued under the U.S. foreign aid freeze, sex workers from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Senegal, and Tanzania have come forward to share their lived experiences. These heartfelt stories expose the devastating impact the aid suspension has had on their lives, their health, and their communities.
From sudden loss of services to increased vulnerability, these testimonies reveal the human cost of policy decisions made far from the streets and shelters where sex workers live and work. Yet, within these stories, there is also a resounding message of strength, resilience, and the urgent need for sustained, rights-based support.
At ASWA, we believe these voices must be heard—and we stand with sex workers in demanding justice, dignity, and recognition.
